Quartet for flute, English horn, clarinet in A and bass clarinet (optional bassoon).
Grade 4. Approx. duration: eight minutes.
Set includes score and five parts.
The wind quartet, with its improvisatory nature and highly contrapuntal style, represents a re imagination of the Brazilian choro. At the same time, the oboe and bassoon--traditional members of the wind quartet--have been replaced by the English horn and clarinet, which has the effect of creating a darker and slightly less reedy sound.
In the preparation of this edition notes have been corrected and many phrase markings and slurs have been added to make this work more idiomatic. Rehearsal letters were added, and measure numbers appear at the beginning of each system. In addition, the parts were meticulously prepared and include strategically placed cues as well as carefully located page turns.
Although we include an optional bassoon part, for its unusual sonority we recommend the composer’s original instrumentation of flute, English horn, clarinet in A and bass clarinet.
