Duet for flute and percussion.
Grade 5. Approx. duration: three minutes.
Set consists of two performance scores.
Li Shen's poem, "Pitying the Farmers," inspired this work for flute and percussion.
The performer must also have a bowl of uncooked rice to pour onto the setup. The effect is to produce the sound of falling rice onto the instruments. Some rice should land inside the singing bowl so that it buzzes the next time it is used. Optionally, other objects (such as pottery, bells or rice bowls) may be added to the setup to enhance the effect.
