Auguste Vény
Little is known about oboist Louis-Auguste Vény. Born in 1801, he entered the Paris Conservatoire as a student of Gustave Vogt, and won the Premier Prix in 1819. Also known as Vinit, that same year he became a member of the orchestra of the Italian Theater. In 1828 he published his Méthode abrégée, which was later reprinted under a longer title around the middle of the century. A preparatory class existed in the Conservatoire from 1839 to 1844, during which time Vény served as professor. In an 1831 edition of Revue Musicale a critic commented on Vény’s English horn playing, which, although he described it as pure, went on to say that it was lacking in warmth and focus. He died sometime after 1879.
