Finalized in 2013, this three-movement work for piano is based on a chromatic/rhythmic language that endeavors to reflect on three struggles from our daily lives from which we emerge victorious.
The first movement, “Emergence,” is constructed in an arch form. Beginning with a nocturnal and mysterious atmosphere, the music becomes increasingly more agitated, only to soften once again to its initial state. “Intermezzo” is a brief second movement that reveals a playful nature with a rhythmic leitmotif that reappears in between thematic developments. The final movement, “Toccata ritmica,” is a piece that is dominated by typical Latin syncopations that generate a frenetic rhythmic environment that also has a witty, dramatic touch. Composed in homage to Venezuelan composer Alfredo Del Mónaco, his work, “Solentiname,” inspired the initial motive heard in this movement.
