Composed in 2014, in “Bambuco” Hernández mixes atonal harmonies with indeterminate elements within the context of the Colombian folkloric rhythm of the same name. In “Guabina,” he uses the characteristic features of an air from Guaina that is part of Colombian folklore. With its rhythmic construction and simple melody, the piece attempts to evoke the ingenuity and simplicity of this folkloric air, with its atonal harmonic progressions guided by the interaction of distinct sonorous groups that help to create an educated style.
