Winner of the 2016 Arts Club Scholarship Award, “Celebration” is dedicated to all the artists supported and inspired by the Arts Club of Washington.
Determination, strength and passion are but a few of the emotions that passed through my mind while thinking about the concept of celebration, which often comes after a great and deserved triumph. It is the precise moment in which the satisfaction of that effort is fully felt. In this piano trio I contextualize these powerful emotions through the aesthetics of music. The constant pulse that frames the piece, which in turn is driven by rhythmic motives, simulates this vast energy. The ocean of harmonies, colors and textures flows into a passive moment of reflection. This contrasting section evokes the necessity of achievement while at the same time honoring the 19th century courtly dances in Puerto Rico and Cuba.
