Compositionally, the aesthetic closeness to local popular music largely determines the artistic creation of the creator. This song belongs to the popular Ecuadorean genre known as a “pasillo.” It was created in homage to Pablo Neruda, whose poem is the basis for this song. This song presents no undue complexities; rather, its purpose is to allow for the expressiveness of the soloist, whose melody uses comfortable movements over a diaphanous accompaniment. Both elements serve to enhance the overall characteristic which is that of an aria of love.
